Anne Davis at eSchool News Online has some good thoughts about blogging with students. Read the article and then comment on it in this blog.

"Could you explain to me how blogging may be used in the classroom?" Now that's a question that was asked of Tom that I would like to answer. First, I'd like to refer you to a couple of previous posts I've made on this topic. One was Ways to use weblogs in education and the other is Weblog think abouts. Perhaps those will help anyone thinking about blogging in the classroom. As I reread the posts, I kept thinking that I need to update them and then my next thought was how all this is still just in the process stage and who knows really where all this will lead.
I think there are many ways to use blogs in the classroom.No, there's not a right way and a wrong way but I do definitely have my own opinions about ways I would like to see them used. First and foremost, I would like to see them used with students in ways that help them better writers and thinkers. And just putting students on blogs does not make this happen. The teacher makes it happen. I've talked before about the conversations and the connections you can make with students. It's important to talk to the students about what is happening.That is crucial. I use my teacher blog with the elementary students to do that. I'd start each class off sort of touching base with what I was writing.Many times I would highlight what a student or another blogger wrote. We have to talk about what is going on with their blogs. Who have they heard from? Do they agree? Do they disagree? We talk about what they are learning. We make connections to how this affects them and our world. Are they excited about it? Do they understand it? What questions come to mind? Where might we go to find answers. Then after the discussions it's back to the blogging. I think maybe we need to spend more time talking about this aspect of blogging. The conversations motivate the students to see themselves as writers who have something to contribute. I also think we educators can learn a great deal from the students by observing and listening to what the students have to say.
Having the larger community a weblog provides does make a difference. We can't get that from other avenues. I often reads bits of other educator blogs to the students. It stretches them and I found that their writing and thinking improved as a result. I don't have all the answers but I'm still exploring and learning.
Another thing that makes a difference with weblogs is that the students are amazed when they realize that someone outside the classroom cares about what they are writing. It makes quite a difference. Again the teacher is the one here who needs to help that happen, if it doesn't of its own accord.
I love the process of building this type of learning together. We truly are guidingand learning right along with them, not just lecturing. So I encourage you to enter the world of blogging in your classroom but first spend some time really thinking about what your educational goals are.

Imigration By The Numbers - Part 2

Before you watch the video, allow me to rant just a bit. Former Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott made the most stupid, idiotic statement that I have ever heard come from the mouth of a so-called conservative senator. He said "Talk radio is running America. We have to deal with that problem."

First of all, how can anyone be so stupid to think that something as insignificant as talk radio could run our country. Shoot, the entire three branches of the federal government can't even run the country. He has to be pretty simple minded to think a bunch of talk radio hosts could.

His problem is that talk raido hosts are mobilizing common, everyday Joe Citizens to bombard he and his ilk with emails, faxes, and phone calls demanding that they stop this amnesty insanity. And I have a problem with him having a problem. I sure thought that we had a reprentative democracy in America where the elected officials were supposed to represent the wishes and desires and best interests of the people who elected them.

So, talk raido has stirred up a bunch of "we the people" who oppose this insane bill and "we the people" are expressing our opinions, apparently in record numbers. Senator Lott doesn't like that, he has a problem with that. It is time that the people of Mississipi send him packing, along with any other senator and representative who refuse to listen to the people. If this government is no longer of the people, by the people, for the people, then there is no more America. That includes our beloved Kay Bailey and John Cornyn in Texas. John is holding fast so far but KB is supporting this insane, stupid bill that will do NOTHING to stem the flow of illegals into our homeland.

And by the way, the "something" that Lott and his ilk will do is called the fairness doctrine. I will rant about that another time, but just know this. There is nothing fair about the fairness doctrine.

This is WELL WORTH your time to watch. This guy, Roy Beck, has a website that you can subscribe to and get email notifications of what is going on in Congress related to the imigration debacle. He also provides a way to send faxes to your representatives and senators for free. I have sent more than a dozen faxes over the last couple of weeks.

Rant #12,000,000 - The Raping of American Culture

12,000,000 new welfare recipients.
12,000,000 new food stamp recipients.
12,000,000 new citizens entitled to medical care that you and I working Joe have to pay through the nose for.
12,000,000 new citizens who will be added to the social security roles when they reach retirement age.
12,000,000 new citizens who won't be the same cheap labor that they are as illegals.
12,000,000 children children added to already crowded classrooms across America.
12,000,000 reasons that we may need another revolution.
12,000,000 reasons that we may need a viable third party.
12,000,000 reasons that I will actively campaign against any politician who supports this insanity.

The President and Congress of the United States of America are poised to preside over the raping of America and the destruction of our culture. Those are strong words, I know, but that is what this immigration amnesty bill is, the raping of the American culture. If this amnesty bill passes it will lead to the end of America as we know it. One only has to look south for a preview of what American will become within a few generations after this bill passes. Compare our culture now with the culture of America before the last amnesty bill in the 80's.

What is it going to do to our welfare system to add 12,000,000 + people to the welfare rolls? And don't think for a minute that that won't happen. It will. Why shouldn't it? These 12,000,000 people are currently working for peanuts. When they become citizens, they will qualify for all kinds of government entitlements. You think they aren't going to avail themselves of that? If you do, you are simply delusional. You need to take a trip to the border region of Texas or Arizona or California. Welfare, food stamps, CHIPS, WIC, the list is endless. Most of the 12,000,000 new citizens will qualify for many of these entitlements. And by the way, who will be paying for the entitlements for 12,000,000 + new citizens? You and I, working Joes.

What impact will this insanity have on our education system? I don't support bilingual education in the way that it is being done today. You may think that the purpose of bilingual ed is to teach children in their home language only long enough for them to become proficient in English. If you think that, you are sadly misinformed. (That is the subject of an upcoming rant.) Add the non-English speaking children of 12,000,000 new citizens to class rolls across America and you have a disaster in the making. More and more resources will have to be spent on educating these new citizens at the expense of... you guessed it, you and I working Joe's kids.

I can't even begin to imagine what 12,000,000 new citizens are going to do to our health care system and our already overcrowded hospital and clogged up emergency rooms.

"What about the workforce? We need the cheap labor. If we want to keep the American economy strong, we must have cheap labor." Have you heard that one? Well, if cheap labor equated to a strong economy, Mexico would be the strongest economy on the face of the planet. Have you been to Mexico lately?

"They are doing jobs that Americans won't do." HOGWASH. (Not my first word of choice but my mother reads this blog!) No workforce in any industry in America is made up of more than 13% illegals. That means that every workforce in every industry in America is comprised of at least 87% American citizens. But let's explore that argument just a bit more. Why do you think Americans won't take those jobs? (Which, according to statistic, they do.) How about this. They can eat better and live in nicer homes on welfare and other government entitlements than they can working at these low paying jobs. OK, I can accept that argument for the sake of argument. It doesn't take much of a brain to figure out that as soon as these 12,000,000 illegals become legal, they are going to realize that they can eat better and live in better homes on welfare and other government entitlements than they can at these jobs. Why would they keep working at those jobs? They won't.

There is no level at which this amnesty bill is a good idea. Our political leaders are rewarding illegal behavior. They are embracing invaders. They will create an America for my grandchildren that is nothing like the America that you and I live in. The American dream will become American nightmare. They are raping our culture.

But you know, as bad as all that is, it is not the worst thing about this amnesty travesty. This piece of garbage legislation does NOTHING to secure our borders. NOTHING!!!! There is nothing new in this bill that will make our borders less porous. Many in Washington are saying that we can't really do anything about border security. It is too big a problem. We just can't fix it. Homeland Security (what a joke) director Chertoff even said this week that this bill is good because it causes us a nation to face reality. The reality to which he refers is that we can't fix the borders. There is a sense in which that statement is true. We can't get control of the borders with this piece of garbage legislation. But make not mistake about it. The intent of this bill is amnesty, not border security. And for the life of me I can't figure out why people who claim to be conservative are supporting this bill. Even John Cornyn voted in support of it late this week.

Here's the deal. We can fix the border problem if we want to. Take a look at this video and see what I mean.

OK. I have ranted and raved and vented and spewed. I don't think I have done an adequate job of expressing how strongly I feel about granting amnesty to 12,000,000 illegal aliens. (Don't let the Washington spin fool you, this is an amnesty bill.) I am angry. I am incensed. I am fearful for the future of my country. Call your legislators and urge them not to support the raping of our American culture.

Rant # 7 - The Case of the Disappearing Polar Bears

I don't know about you, but I am genuinely concerned. I am wringing my hands, loosing sleep, worried and stressed out all the time now over this. What is the cause of all my anxiety? Polar bears are dying. You have all seen this picture of that poor, cuddly, cute little polar bear stuck out on that melting chunk of ice. Just look at him (or is it a her?). Look at the expression on his face. Can't you just see the worry, and concern, and dare I say, fear? This poor polar bear is afraid!

Now why would a polar bear be afraid? The answer is simple. Global warming. (You knew that was coming, didn't you?) Man made global warming is causing polar bear homelessness. We are melting the ancient home of his tribe. When you jump in your gas guzzling SUV and go to your air conditioned office tomorrow, realize that you are killing this majestic creature and his kin. YOU are robbing him of his ability to provide for his family with your evil, carbon spewing, air polluting, greenhouse gasing lifestyle.

Now I know that this is a bit of a contradiction to what I have written in the past, but hey, if politicians can change their minds, why can't I? It is, after all, science, isn't it? Let's take a look at some unbiased, scientific facts and you will see what I am talking about.

Mitchell Taylor is a Canadian biologist who has been studying polar bear populations in Canda for many years. He has just released the latest results of his ongoing study and you will be shocked and amazed at what he says. I know I was.

...the number of polar bears in the Davis Strait area of Canada's eastern Arctic – one of 19 polar bear populations worldwide – has grown to 2,100, up from 850 in the mid-1980s. "There aren't just a few more bears. There are a ... lot more bears," biologist Mitchell Taylor told the Nunatsiaq News of Iqaluit in the Arctic territory of Nunavut.
Earlier, in a long telephone conversation, Dr. Taylor explained his conviction that threats to polar bears from global warming are exaggerated and that their numbers are increasing. He has studied the animals for the Nunavut government for two decades.

Oh wait! That's not what I meant to quote. Just a minute. Let me find another one.

OK, read THIS...

Polar bears are the poster animals of global warming. The image of a polar bear floating on an ice floe is one of the most dramatic visual statements in the fight against rising temperatures in the Arctic. But global warming is not killing the polar bears of Canada's eastern Arctic, according to one ongoing study.

Dang! I did it again!

OK, OK, try this one...

The latest government survey of polar bears roaming the vast Arctic expanses of northern Quebec, Labrador and southern Baffin Island show the population of polar bears has jumped to 2,100 animals from around 800 in the mid-1980s. As recently as three years ago, a less official count placed the number at 1,400.

For those of you who are mathmatically challenged, that is a 150% increase in 20 years. Hmm....
Here is another quote for you to consider...

The Inuit have always insisted the bears' demise was greatly exaggerated by scientists doing projections based on fly-over counts, but their input was usually dismissed as the ramblings of self-interested hunters. As Nunavut government biologist Mitch Taylor observed in a front-page story in the Nunatsiaq News last month, "the Inuit were right. There aren't just a few more bears. There are a hell of a lot more bears." Their widely portrayed lurch toward extinction on a steadily melting ice cap is not supported by bear counts in other Arctic regions either.

Even the U.S Fish and Wildlife Service gets in on this act.

The service identifies six Arctic regions where data are insufficient to make a call on the population, including the aforementioned Baffin shores area. Another six areas are listed as having stable counts, three experienced reduced numbers and two have seen their bears increase.

But what about that poor, scared polar bear in the picture?

Polar bears often travel on ice floes
Polar bears can swim "easily" in open water for 60 miles
Polar bears will often hang out on glacier ice or large pieces of multiyear ice
The photographer who took the picture was obviously standing on something solid not too far away from the "stranded" bear.

If you believe the agenda driven pseudo-science that is being force fed to the American public in the name of news, (if you tell a lie often enough, it eventually becomes accepted as the truth...) we are in a downward, accelerating planetary death spiral that will lead to total global annihilation if we don't stop driving our cars, barbecuing hamburgers, making electricity, and using so many squares of toilet paper. I am not nearly as concerned about global warming causing planetary annihilation as I am about the increasing polar bear population. They are killing machines of the first order and they are on the increase. Our government has proven its total inability to control invasions of a foregin army. What if the polar bear population gets so large that they invade the US!! That is something to worry about!!!

Rant # 6 - The Fort Bend Fiasco

Well, it has happened. The gestapo has finally arrived in America. We have been hearing warnings about this for years, but it has finally happened. If you are a believer in truth, justice, and the American way, (which, by the way, the makers of the latest Superman movie aren't, since they took that line out of Superman's vocabulary) this may shake you to your very core. To paraphrase Meridith Wilson in "The Music Man," Well, we got trouble, my friend. Right here, I say trouble right here in ~~River City"~~ Fort Bend County (Texas, that is).

It seems that a nice young man (by all accounts a good student, lots of friends, never been in trouble, your all around stand up kind of kid) was playing a first person shooter video game, on his computer, at his home, in his bedroom in Sugar Land (Fort Bend County), Texas. The computer game that this kid had been playing, Counterstrike, is a game that pits an anti-terrorist force against a group of terrorists. That all seems innocent enough, right? Well, that is only because you don't know the rest of the story. You see, it seems that this particular game can be modded (modified for those of us over 30). It allows a player (a smart, creative, imaginative player) to create his own environments (maps) in which to play this game. So, it seems that this... this... this junior terrorist in the making had the audactiy, the arrogance, the impertenece, the unmitigated gall to create a model in his game that looks eerily similar to Clements High School (where he was a Senior) and made that campus the focus of the terrorists attack.

Now here is where the story takes a scary turn. Apparently a group of keystone, rent-a-cops known as the Fort Bend Independent School District Police Department, henceforth know as the gestapo, were dispatched to the home of this young man. According to one source, they intimidated and bullied the parents of this young man into letting them into the house where they promptly searched, without a warrant, this young man's room and confiscated his terrorists weapons and the computer on which he was obviously planning a massive terrorist attack against the school. The terroristic weapons that were confiscated? Wooden swords and... and ... and... a HAMMER!!!!! Oh my gosh... he actually had a hammer in his room. Weapons of mass destruction indeed!!!!!

Now let's review the facts here. The Clements High School senior, who had never been in trouble, was in the privacy of his own home, in the privacy of his own bedroom, playing a game on his own computer. School administrators found out about it, sent the keystone gestapo to his home to bully their way in to the home and confiscate the kid's computer, some decorative wooden swords, and a hammer. As a result of this keystone gestapo action, the student was sent to in-school prison. In Texas we call it an Alternative School. It is really a way to keep from suspending or expelling a student so that the school can continue to collect money based on that student's attendance while at the same time punishing the most serious offenders. And don't forget, this all happened because a High School student was playing a computer game!!! In his own home!!!!

I hope this whole thing outrages you, because it certainly does outrage me! Have our cherished American freedoms become so erroded and watered down that a pretend police force with absolutely no jurisdiction can barge into your home home, confiscate your stuff, and throw you in jail on the whim of boss, beaurocrat, or other government official? I also hope that these parents are outraged (along with the parents of every other student in Fort Bend County ISD) and that they have a good lawyer. My sincere hope is that they sue the proverbial pants off this school district, the principal, the FBISD "rent-a-cops" that perpetrated this insanity, and anyone else they can find that has any culpability in this gestapo-like action.

If these nut cases are allowed to get away with this, it very well may set a precendent, one that would allow any governmental agency to invade my privacy, sieze my stuff, and send me to jail for whatever reason they deem appropriate, even the game that I was playing on my computer tonight that involved guns and swords.

All you hammer totin' Texans --- beware!!!!!!!

Why We MUST Win In Iraq, Regardless of the Cost!

There is a famous, oft repeated quote that says "Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it."

I received the essay below via email from a friend (thanks Scott) who received it from another friend (Thanks Dave). I have researched it a bit and it is a legitimate essay written by the author attributed at the end of the essay. It is a bit long, but it is really worth the read.

Most of us are not old enough to remember that nearly every family in America was grossly affected by WWII. Most of us don't remember the rationing of meat, shoes, gasoline, and sugar, no tires for our automobiles, and a speed limit of 35 miles an hour on the road, not to mention, no new automobiles. Read this essay and think about how we would react to being taken over by foreigners in 2007.

Sixty-three years ago, Nazi Germany had overrun almost all of Europe and hammered England to the verge of bankruptcy and defeat. The Nazis had sunk more than 400 British ships in their convoys between England and America taking food and war materials. At that time the US was in an isolationist, pacifist mood, and most Americans wanted nothing to do with the European or the Asian war.

Then along came Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, and in outrage, Congress unanimously declared war on Japan, and the following day on Germany, who had not yet attacked us. It was a dicey thing. We had few allies.

France was not an ally, as the Vichy government of France quickly aligned itself with its German occupiers. Germany was certainly not an ally, as Hitler was intent on setting up a Thousand Year Reich in Europe. Japan was not an ally, as it was well on its way to owning and controlling all of Asia.

Together, Japan and Germany had long-range plans of invading Canada and Mexico, as launching pads to get into the United States over our northern and southern borders, after they finished gaining control of Asia and Europe America's only allies then were England, Ireland, Scotland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, India and Russia. That was about it. All of Europe, from Norway to Italy (except Russia in the East) was already under the Nazi heel.

The US was certainly not prepared for war. The US had drastically downgraded most of its military forces after WW I because of the depression, so that at the outbreak of WW II, Army units were training with broomsticks because they didn't have guns, and cars with "tank" painted on the doors because they didn't have real tanks. A huge chunk of our Navy had just been sunk or damaged at Pearl Harbor.

Britain had already gone bankrupt, saved only by the donation of $600 million in gold bullion in the Bank of England (that was actually the property of Belgium) given by Belgium to England to carry on the war when Belgium was overrun by Hitler (a little known fact). Actually, Belgium surrendered on one day, because it was unable to oppose the German invasion, and the Germans bombed Brussels into rubble the next day just to prove they could.

Britain had already been holding out for two years in the face of staggering losses and the near decimation of its Royal Air Force in the Battle of Britain, and was saved from being overrun by Germany only because Hitler made the mistake of thinking the Brits were a relatively minor threat that could be dealt with later. Hitler, first turned his attention to Russia, in the late summer of 1940 at a time when England was on the verge of collapse.

Ironically, Russia saved America 's butt by putting up a desperate fight for two years, until the US got geared up to begin hammering away at Germany. Russia lost something like 24,000,000 people in the sieges of Stalingrad and Moscow alone . . . 90% of them from cold and starvation, mostly civilians, but also more than a 1,000,000 soldiers. Had Russia surrendered, Hitler would have been able to focus his entire war effort against the Brits, then America. If that had happened, the Nazis could possibly have won the war.

All of this has been brought out to illustrate that turning points in history are often dicey things. Now, we find ourselves at another one of those key moments in history. There is a very dangerous minority in Islam that either has, or wants, and may soon have, the ability to deliver small nuclear, biological, or chemical weapons, almost anywhere in the world. The Jihadis, the militant Muslims, are basically Nazis in Kaffiyahs -- they believe that Islam, a radically conservative form of Wahhabi Islam, should own and control the Middle East first, then Europe, then the world. To them, all who do not bow to their way of thinking should be killed, enslaved, or subjugated. They want to finish the Holocaust, destroy Israel, and purge the world of Jews. This is their mantra. (goal)

There is also a civil war raging in the Middle East -- for the most part not a hot war, but a war of ideas. Islam is having its Inquisition and its Reformation, but it is not yet known which side will win -- the Inquisitors, or the Reformationists. If the Inquisition wins, then the Wahhabis, the Jihadis, will control the Middle East, the OPEC oil, and the US, European, and Asian economies. The techno-industrial economies will be at the mercy of OPEC -- not an OPEC dominated by the educated, rational Saudis of today, but an OPEC dominated by the Jihadis. Do you want gas in your car? Do you want heating oil next winter? Do you want the dollar to be worth anything? You had better hope the Jihad, the Muslim Inquisition, loses, and the Islamic Reformation wins.

If the Reformation movement wins, that is, the moderate Muslims who believe that Islam can respect and tolerate other religions, live in peace with the rest of the world, and move out of the 10th century into the 21st, then the troubles in the Middle East will eventually fade away. A moderate and prosperous Middle East will emerge. We have to help the Reformation win, and to do that we have to fight the Inquisition, i. e., the Wahhabi movement, the Jihad, Al Qaeda and the Islamic terrorist movements.

We have to do it somewhere. We can't do it everywhere at once. We have created a focal point for the battle at a time and place of our choosing . . . . . . . in Iraq. Not in New York, not in London , or Paris or Berlin , but in Iraq , where we are doing two important things.

(1) We deposed Saddam Hussein. Whether Saddam Hussein was directly involved in the 9/11 terrorist attack or not, it is undisputed that Saddam has been actively supporting the terrorist movement for decades Saddam is a terrorist! Saddam is, or was, a weapon of mass destruction, responsible for the deaths of probably more than a1,000,000 Iraqis and 2,000,000 Iranians.

(2) We created a battle, a confrontation, a flash point, with Islamic terrorism in Iraq. We have focused the battle. We are killing bad people, and the ones we get there we won't have to get here. We also have a good shot at creating a democratic, peaceful Iraq, which will be a catalyst for democratic change in the rest of the Middle East, and an outpost for a stabilizing American military presence in the Middle East for as long as it is needed .

WW II, the war with the Japanese and German Nazis, really began with a "whimper" in 1928. It did not begin with Pearl Harbor. It began with the Japanese invasion of China. It was a war for fourteen years before the US joined it. It officially ended in 1945 -- a 17 year war -- and was followed by another decade of US occupation in Germany and Japan to get those countries reconstructed and running on their own again . A 27 year war.

WW II cost the United States an amount equal to approximately a full year's GDP -- adjusted for inflation, equal to about $12 trillion dollars.

WW II cost America more than 400,000 soldiers killed in action, and nearly 100,000 still missing in action.

The Iraq war has, so far, cost the United States about $160,000,000,000, which is roughly what the 9/11 terrorist attack cost New York.

It has also cost about 3,000 American lives, which is roughly equivalent to lives that the Jihad killed (within the United States) in the 9/11 terrorist attack.

The cost of not fighting and winning WW II would have been unimaginably greater -- a world dominated by Japanese Imperialism and German Nazism.

This is not a 60-Minutes TV show, or a 2-hour movie in which everything comes out okay. The real world is not like that. It is messy, uncertain, and sometimes bloody and ugly. It always has been, and probably always will be.

The bottom line is that we will have to deal with Islamic terrorism until we defeat it, whenever that is. It will not go away if we ignore it. If the US can create a reasonably democratic and stable Iraq, then we have an ally, like England, in the Middle East, a platform, from which we can work to help modernize and moderate the Middle East.

The history of the world is the clash between the forces of relative civility and civilization, and the barbarians clamoring at the gates to conquer the world. The Iraq War is merely another battle in this ancient and never ending war. Now, for the first time ever, the barbarians are about to get nuclear weapons unless some body prevents them from getting them.

We have four options:

1 . We can defeat the Jihad now, before it gets nuclear weapons.

2 . We can fight the Jihad later, after it gets nuclear weapons (which may be as early as next year, if Iran's progress on nuclear weapons is what Iran claims it is).

3 . We can surrender to the Jihad and accept its dominance in the Middle East now; in Europe in the next few years or decades, and ultimately in America. OR

4. We can stand down now, and pick up the fight later when the Jihad is more widespread and better armed, perhaps after the Jihad has dominated France and Germany and possibly most of the rest of Europe. It will, of course, be more dangerous, more expensive, and much bloodier.

If you oppose this war, I hope you like the idea that your children, or grandchildren, may live in an Islamic America under the Mullahs and the Sharia, an America that resembles Iran today.

The history of the world is the history of civilization clashes, cultural clashes. All wars are about ideas, ideas about what society and civilization should be like, and the most determined always win. Those who are willing to be the most ruthless always win. The pacifists always lose, because the anti-pacifists kill them.

Remember, perspective is every thing, and America’s schools teach too little history for perspective to be clear, especially in the young American mind. The Cold War lasted from about 1947 at least until the Berlin Wall came down in 1989; forty-two years!

Europe spent the first half of the 19th century fighting Napoleon, and from 1870 to 1945 fighting Germany!

World War II began in 1928, lasted 17 years, plus a ten year occupation and the US still has troops in Germany and Japan. World War II resulted in the death of more than 50,000,000 people, maybe more than 100,000,000 people, depending on which estimates you accept.

The US has taken more than 3,000 killed in action in Iraq. The US took more than 4,000 killed in action on the morning of June 6, 1944, the first day of the Normandy Invasion to rid Europe of Nazi Imperialism.

In WW II the US averaged 2,000 KIA a week -- for four years.

Most of the individual battles of WW II lost more Americans than the entire Iraq war has done so far.

The stakes are at least as high . . A world dominated by representative governments with civil rights, human rights, and personal freedoms . . or a world dominated by a radical Islamic Wahhabi movement, by the Jihad, under the Mullahs and the Sharia (Islamic law).

It's difficult to understand why the average American does not grasp this. They favor human rights, civil rights, liberty and freedom, but evidently not for Iraqis.

"Peace Activists" always seem to demonstrate here in America, where it's safe. Why don't we see Peace Activist demonstrating in Iran, Syria, Iraq, Sudan, North Korea, in the places that really need peace activism the most? I'll tell you why! They would be killed!

The liberal mentality is supposed to favor human rights, civil rights, democracy, multiculturalism, diversity, etc., but if the Jihad wins, wherever the Jihad wins, it is the
end of civil rights, human rights, democracy, multiculturalism, diversity, etc.Americans who oppose the liberation of Iraq are coming down on the side of their own worst enemy!

The Anti Rant

For the two or three of you who read this blog who are not a member of my family or with whom I do not work, I want to let you know that the reason that I haven't been ranting and raving lately is that we had a death in our family. My wife's mother, Jane, who lived with us for the last several years, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 14th. She succommed to a rare but serious side effect of the chemotherapy she was receiving in treatment for cancer. While we do and will continue to miss her, we can't be sad for her. She has looked forward to meeting the Savior face to face for quite some time now and she has been reunited with her husband who beat her to heaven by about 26 years. Now you tell me, what could be better than that?

It was my intention to sing "Touring That City" at her funeral but that didn't happen. I couldn't even make it through the song in the car by myself on the way to meet Karen in Austin. It was to be my tribute to Jane, her memory, and to her new life and her new, un-diseased body. I couldn't sing it at the funeral so I will share it here. Before you read (or sing) the words of the song below, I want to let you know that my daughter, Crystal, wrote a beautiful, moving, emotional (just ask those at Tom's house who heard me try to read it out loud) post on her blog that still brings tears to my eyes. It is a perfect tribute to her grandmother. I really hope you will click here and read it.

So, here it is...and it still chokes me up just reading it.

Rant #5 - Cows On Jupiter!

Who would have ever thought it? We now have absolute, conclusive, irrefutable evidence. The science is "settled," it is "clear and compelling," and the "debate is over." There is no doubt about it. There are cows on Jupiter. Now hold on for just a minute. Stop laughing, will you. I am being serious here. There ARE cows on Jupiter. We know it. It is a settled scientific fact and you must accept it based on the science, even if you don't like it or think it's silly. You just have to trust me... or rather, trust the science because it's... well... scientific!

No, I have never been to Jupiter to see the cows for myself. No one has! So of course, we can't say from first hand experience, what scientists call "observation," that there are cows on Jupiter but that doesn't matter! Regardless of whatever "facts" or arguments that you might make to the contrary, it is an absolute certainty that there are definitely cows on Jupiter, apparently quite a large herd, in fact.

Before you quit reading, please let me explain. How do we know that there are cows on Jupiter? In a word, global warming. Scientists on our planet are now telling us that the methane gas released by cattle (as well as other livestock such as pigs and chickens) is more responsible for global warming greenhouse gases than all the world's transportation combined!! That's what a UN report said and we know they are never politically motivated and they are always right.... right? So what does that have to do with cows being on Jupiter, you ask? Jupiter is also experiencing global warming, along with Mars and Saturn. Cows are the cause of global warming on our home planet, they must be causing it on Jupiter too... right? That make scientific sense doesn't it? Sure it does. You can't argue with "the facts," especially when they are "settled," "clear and compelling," and the "debate is over."

In fact, it is even mathematically provable. (I am a great fan of the TV show "Numb3rs.") Here is the advanced mathematical equation that proves that there are cows on Jupiter.

Cows = methane gas = global warming
and...
Cows on earth = methane gas = global warming THEREFORE global warming on Jupiter = methane gas = cows on Jupiter.

Professor Eppes would be proud of me!!! Don't you think?

Of course the idea of cows on Jupiter is an absurdity. My point is that the idea that humans are the source of global warming is just as absurd.It is based on science that is as absurd as what you have just read. A infamous person once said "A lie told often enough becomes the truth." This lie has been told over and over and now, for many, it is truth. But it is NOT truth, just as it is not truth that there are cows on Jupiter. By the way, the infamous person who is credited with that statement is Vladimir Lenin. It seems that the libs who are lobbying to destroy our sovereignty and strangle our economy are in good company. Here is another quote that fits this situation.

"Make the lie big, make it simple, keep saying it, and eventually they will believe it."

Once again, right on the spot. The big, simple, oft repeated lie has now become entrenched in our culture as an irrefutable, "settled" fact. Adolph Hitler made that statement and used the philosophy behind it to nealy wipe out an entire race. Today the Blame America First, tree hugging, liberals are using it again, and apparently with some success. It seems that Al(dolph) Toxic Hypocrite and his supporters are in good company, wouldn't you say?

This Just In...
Not only are the Kyoto supporting wackos out there trying to get you to stop driving your SUV's and turn off your AC, (while they fly around in private jets and use more electicity heating and cooling their homes each month than you and I do in a year), shut down our manufacturing plant, and get us all around the campfire singing kum bah yah, now they want us all the become vegetarians! It's only logical! It's for the planet! Mother Earth will thank you for it. Thier twisted, misled logic says that if we stop eating beef, we will be doing our part to end global warming. Really. Save the planet! Eat eggplant!!!

Our planet is getting warmer but you shouldn't loose any sleep over it. Real scientist will tell you that the planet has always heated up and cooled off in cycles. (Remeber the ice age?) There is absolutely no scientific evidence that the current, very slight warming trend is anything more than just that, another normal, oft repeated heating cycle. There is no more evidence to support humans being the cause of global warming than there is to support the presence of cows on Jupiter.

Rant #4 - A Conservative Opposed to the Surge

I want to go on record as being absolutely opposed to the current surge being supported and promoted by President Bush and some in congress. I know that may come as a shock to many of you, given my "right-wing, conservative, middle class, capitalistic, anti big government, pro life, anti tax, pro military, anti illegal immigration, pro free speech, Fox News watching, angry white male" tag line. Well I am opposed and here are a few of the reasons for my opposition...

People are going to die as a result of the surge.
The surge is going to cost an incredible amount of money.
The surge is going to cause a further degradation of our culture.
The surge has become a political football being used by both sides of the isle for partisan gain. Good for politicians, bad for Americans!
Polls show that Americans are opposed to the surge.
The cost of goods and services that we use everyday is rising because of the surge.
The surge is causing us to support a corrupt government.
The "surge-ers" are unwanted by the natives.
According to many, the surge is illegal. Where does the Constitution say that any government official, from the president down, has the right to abrogate the laws of our great nation? Yet many voices say that is exactly what is going on here.
The impact of the surge on our health care system will be huge. So many surge-ers needing medical treatment with little or no money to pay for it. Who is going to pay for all those medical expenses? You and I, the American taxpayer, that's who!!! OUTRAGEOUS I tell you!!! It is just OUTRAGEOUS!!!!!!!!

That being said, here is my question. Why are "we the people" allowing this surge to take place? Don't we have the power to stop it? Or is this no longer a government of the people, by the people, and for the people. I say STOP THE SURGE!!!! Take a stand against this insane surge. Write your senators. Call your representatives. Organize a rally and march in streets waving the flag. We must demand that our leaders STOP THE INSANITY BY STOPPING THE SURGE!!!! The cost is just too great to sit idly by and watch our welfare system crumble, our educational system fail, and our culture disappear as a result of this surge. WE MUST PUT AN END TO ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION!!!!!

What's that you say? You thought I was talking about the troop surge in Iraq? Heck no!!!! That's working!! I support the president in his effort to win this war. Unfortunately, the newly empowered libs in congress just told the terrorists how long they have to hold on to defeat the last and fading world superpower. Unlike many libs, and unfortunately, many Republicans, I believe in victory at any cost. We MUST win this war and we need to win it in Iraq, Iran, and wherever else in the Middle East it needs to be fought. If not, we will have to win it in New York, and Detroit, and Dallas and Los Angeles and YOUR hometown.

As a native Iowan and excellent customer of the Internal Revenue Service, I am writing to ask for your assistance. I have contacted the Department of Homeland Security in an effort to determine the process for becoming an illegal alien and they referred me to you.

My primary reason for wishing to change my status from U.S. Citizen to illegal alien stem from the bill which was recently passed by the Senate and for which you voted. If my understanding of this bill's provisions is accurate, as an
illegal alien who has been in the United States for five years, all I need to do to become a citizen is to pay a $2,000 fine and income taxes for three of
the last five years. I know a good deal when I see one and I am anxious to get the process started before everyone figures it out.

Simply put, those of us who have been here legally have had to pay taxes every year so I'm excited about the prospect of avoiding two years of taxes in return for paying a $2,000 fine. Is there any way that I can apply to be illegal retroactively? This would yield an excellent result for me and my family because we paid heavy taxes in 2004 and 2005.

Additionally, as an illegal alien I could begin using the local emergency room as my primary health care provider. Once I have stopped paying premiums for
medical insurance, my accountant figures I could save almost $10,000 a year.
Another benefit in gaining illegal status would be that my daughter would receive preferential treatment relative to her law school applications, as well as "in-state" tuition rates for many colleges throughout the United States for my
son.

Lastly, I understand that illegal status would relieve me of the burden of renewing my driver's license and making those burdensome car insurance premiums.
This is very important to me given that I still have college age children driving my car.

If you would provide me with an outline of the process to become illegal (retroactively if possible) and copies of the necessary forms, I would be most
appreciative. Thank you for your assistance.

Rant #3 - Interplanetary Governmental Conspiracy

How dare they?!? I am not a conspiracy theory junkie, but I must admit, this one really has me thinking. You see, it seems that... how can it be... Mars and Jupiter, and even Saturn are experiencing global warming!! How can that POSSIBLY be? There are no gas guzzling, pollution spewing SUV's or coal burning electric plants on any of those planets, are there? Or is it possible.... no it just can't be. But it has to be. We are now hearing on a daily basis how we bad humans are are spewing out all kinds of pollution and gases and other scientific stuff that only the likes of Al the Toxic Hypocrite can really understand, and that those things that we bad humans are doing are causing our precious mother earth to, how did king Al say it, "have a fever." So humans cause global warming. The science is in, we have been told, and we are the culprit. But there aren't any filthy, pollution causing, bad humans on Mars, Jupiter, or Saturn.... are there?

This is where the conspiracy really starts cooking. You see, I think that the government has a secret program sending bad humans to colonize the other planets. Since we now know that our planetary neighbors are running a fever, and we know that we bad humans are the cause and the source of global warming, the only logical conclusion that we can draw is that bad humans are, in fact, inhabiting those planets and causing global warming. The science is in, we have been told, and we are the culprit. Humans are now living on Mars, Saturn, and Jupiter. There is even some evidence that the pseudo-planet Pluto is running a fever. My gosh, just think of the implications of that possibility. Our government scientists have advanced inter-planetary travel so far that we now have people living on Pluto!! I just can't tell you how exciting that is! I am so proud to be an American, even if we are now responsible for destroying the entire solar system.

I can just see some of you (all libs) rolling your eyes. You are probably thinking what an idiot I must be. But be honest. What other explanation is there to this solar system warming phenomenon? Remember, the science is in. We are the culprit. There is no doubt about it, we are told. If you fashion yourself to be scientist in these enlightened times and you dare disagree with the science, you may well loose your job, your family, your reputation, and whatever standing you might have had in the scientific community. There is only one explination for this planetary sickness, bad humans are now inhabiting the planets! What other explination is possible? What else could these planets have in common besides the existence of bad humans?

Oh wait, don't they all circle the sun? And isn't it a scientific fact that the sun cycles through hotter and cooler cycles? And isn't the sun in the middle of a hotter cycle right now? Hmmm... may king Al, the Toxic Hypocrite is wrong.

Such insanity!!!!

America DOES Have An Aristocracy!

Well, well, well. Now I understand. It is finally all clear. It took a while, but I finally figured it out. America really DOES have an aristocracy, an privileged, ruling class that is able to live by different rules and standards than the rest of us common folk, working class, peasant, peons. The ruling class kings and queens can do whatever they want, whenever they want, however they want while demanding that us peon peasants do whatever they deem necessary to maintain their lavish lifestyles.

Here is a perfect example of what I am talking about (there are many more that I could point you to). Apparently Mr. Global Warming, when challenged today to take an oath to use no more electricity than us common folk, working class, peon, peasants, flatly refused to do so. So you see, it is OK for King Al and all his rich, privileged, above the law (remember the China connection?) cronies to use all the electricity (Al uses more in a month than the rest of use in a year), gasoline (they all drive big, gas guzzling, pollution spewing SUV's and fly around in private jets using more fuel on one flight than I will use in a year of driving) and other natural resources that they want to while running around the country trying to scare little old ladies and boy scouts into believing that WE are causing global warming and we are all going to die if we don't start making sacrifices, conserving instead of consuming, and stop polluting! It's OK because they are the privileged class and we are their serfs.

It seems that America is no longer the land of the free and the home of the brave. It seems that we have become of the land of the privileged class and the home of the serfs.

Al, you can fool some of the people some of the time (and boy are you doing a good job of that!) but you can't fool all of the all of the time. I'm not fooled and you are no king!!! In fact, I have new label for you. Al, on this blog you are now officially christened "the toxic hypocrite" (thank you Crystal) for all the pollution your vehicles, jets, home, and zinc mines pump into the air we breathe.

Rant #2 - Once Upon A Time....

Once upon a time in a farawy land to the north was a beautiful forest. The forest was full of opportunity and wealth beyond imagination.

OK, enough of the fairy tale stuff. This week I want to rant about illegal immigration and the lack of polictical guts to stop the invasion. Yes, I said invasion. Over the last 20 years our sovergien nation has been invaded by 12 million illegal entrants and we the people are just now starting to realize the price that this army of invaders is extracting from our economy, education system, health care system and more. The toll has been enormous and it is growing exponentially.

According to the Center for Immigration Studies, illegal immigrants (or invaders, if you prefer) cost you and I, the American tax payer $2.5 billion for medicare; $2.2 billion for health care for the uninsured; $1.9 billion for food via programs such as food stamps, WIC, and free school lunches; $1.6 billion for prison and court costs; $1.4 billion for federal aid to schools required to educate children of illegals EACH YEAR! And then there is this quote....

"If illegal aliens were given amnesty and began to pay taxes and use services like households headed by legal immigrants with the same education levels, the estimated annual net fiscal deficit would increase from $2,700 per household to nearly $7,700, for a total net cost of $29 billion."

I want you to read that amount again.... TWENTY NINE BILLION DOLLARS!!!!!!!!! And that is an annual cost that will surely increase as the number of illegals and the cost of living increase. Think about that $29 billion in April when you pay your federal income tax. Part of that check you write will be used to pay for all those items listed above and more for people who are here ILLEGALLY!!!!! They are criminals and you and I are subsidizing their criminality with our hard earned wages. Oh, and I haven't even mentioned the mad idea of adding illegals to the list of social security recipients. The insanity, stupidity, and madness just continues getting worse. Social Security is going to be broke in a few years, and that is without making payments to the invaders. I just can't believe that anyone in Washington would be so stupid and near sighted. It has to be a selfish, self-centered ploy to win voters and hold on to power. What else could motivate such insane madness?

Now I can hear some bleeding hearts out there screaming about taking care of the children and how most of these people are hard working and they are taking jobs that Americans don't want. My answer to that question is simple. The law is the law and when you break a law you are a criminal!! These illegal invaders are criminals. Period! I know that many of them are good, hard working, God fearing, family loving men and women, but they are here illegally. They are criminals. And law abiding citizens of the US are subsidizing their criminality to the tune of (what will soon be) $29 billion per year! That is not only wrong, it is INSANE!!!!

"But wait," some might say. "We are the richest, most proserous, wealthy nation in the world. Don't we have a moral, spiritual obligation to help those less fortunate than us?" If you read my "About Me" piece, then you know I am a believer, a Christian. And yes, God does say in His Book (the Bible) that when we ignore the poor and downtrodden we are ignoring Him. But do you really want to go down that road as a nation, as a matter of national law or policy? I wouldn't mind but I am not sure that most illegal-immigration supporters would. If we, as a nation, decide to take God at his word then homosexuality would be outlawed, gay marriage wouldn't even be considered, abortion would be a crime, even extra-marital affairs and pre-marital sex would be illegal, as would all forms of pornography and many more staples of our culture. So I might be willing to comprimise on the illegal immigration issue if you are willing to accept the rest of the morals of the scripture on a national basis. I don't think most libs (and sadly, many conservatives) would be willing to do that.

So if you are part of the "moral/spiritual obligation" crowd when it comes to illegal immigration, here's my suggestion to you. Find some illegals and take them into your home and support them. Or find a church that is involved in supporting the needs of illegal immagrants. There are thousands of them in America. Become involved in that church and support their efforts with your time and your money. That would be a fulfillment of your moral/spirtual obligation as you see it. But you see, the truth is that you don't want to be THAT involved. You want me to give more of my hard earned money to the government so you can feel better about "our moral/spiritual obligation."

I want to make something perfectly clear here. I am NOT anti-immigration or anti-immigrant. My ancestors were immigrants at one time. So were yours unless you are an American Indian or an Eskimo. What has me angry and concerned for the future of our culture is illegal immigration. A well thought out, carefully planned and adminstered program of legal immigration is important for the future of America. A policy of open borders with little or no control over who is coming into our country is national and cultural suicide.

So what is the solution to this problem? I'm sure that I am not smart enough to have the answer and that is not what ranting and raving is all about anyway. I do like the idea of building a wall, taking some of that $29 billion and dedicating it the boder patrol, and stopping the invasion. If we don't do that, my grandchildren will not have an America to grow up in. Of that I am quite sure. What to do with the 12 million illegals already here is a much more complex issue but we CAN'T just grant them citizenship, even if we charge them some piddlin' amount for it. There has to be a better way. Send them back to their country of origin. If they want to come back, make sure they do it legally, through a border that is controlled.

All I know is that if we don't fix this problem we are done as a superpower. In fact, we may well be done as a coherent nation. A few well placed suitcase nukes brought into America through our pourous border by some of the thousands of OTMs that cross illegally on a monthly basis may well do enough damage to our economy that we can no longer exist as a nation.

With so much at stake how can the people who we have elected to lead us not fix this crisis. I just don't understand. Will the legacy of this congress and this president be that they were the ones that fiddled while America was destroyed? Time and history will tell.

Liberal Hypocricy --- Yet AGAIN!!!

Once again NewMax (www.newsmax.com) has pointed out yet another example of hypocricy at the highest level. Mr. Environment, Mr. Global Warming, the guy who wants you and I to stop driving cars because we are putting too many toxins in the air we breathe (while flying aroudnd the country and the world in his gas guzzling private jet) and stop using electricity to heat and cool our homes (while using more per month than the average American uses in a year - read about it here), Al Gore, it seems, received more than $500,000 in royalties from the owners of zinc mines, according to a report on Tennessean.com. According to the article (click here to read the whole article) "Before being shut down in 2003, the mines emitted thousands of pounds of toxic substances." So Mr. Inconvenient Truth collect a half a million dollars of, shall we say, pollution money? What a hypocrite!!!!!

Hmm... I wonder how many thousands of pounds of toxic substances my car spews into the air?

Will the insanity ever end? I doubt it.

Rant # 1 - What Is This Blog All About?

This world of ours is spinning out of control. Political correctness is destroying America. Liberals are hellbent on changing America that would make the founding fathers turn over in their graves. Common sense is disappearing at an alarming rate among those whom we select to lead our nation. The myth of global warming is being used to destroy our economy. We are SO dependent on forgein oil and yet the enviromentalist, tree hugging wacos won't let us drill in Anwar, the east or west coast, and even, to great extent, in the Gulf of Mexico. (btw, CHINA and MEXICO are drilling in the Gulf of Mexico with GREAT success. What did I say about common sense and political correctness?) The world only remaining superpower (which, btw, I am very proud of) is being "sissified." The list goes on and on and on and on. Who knew that the energizer bunny was a politically correct, tree hugging, sissified, liberal?

I love America. I am unabashedly patriotic. I love America's values, at least the ones that America used to hold to, and the stuff that is going on in our nation, especially in Washington, just makes me sick. It makes me want to puke. I get so angry that I sometimes find myself screaming and yelling (shall I say "ranting") at the news. And that is what this blog is all about, my personal rantings and ravings about the stuff that is going on in our nation, our government, and our world. I don't expect many people to read my rantings and ravings, but if you do, and I give you pause and make you think for a couple of minutes about the absurdity of what I see going on in the world, then I will have accomplished one goal for this blog.

I do have another reason for starting this blog. I need an outlet. I need to say something, actually many somethings, about what is going on in the world. I need a place to blow off steam. I need a place to rant and rave. My wife is very apolitical. Some of my co-workers are liberal and talking about politics at work is no longer acceptable because someone might get offended! (Sissification?) Some of my co-workers are conservatives but talking with them is somewhat like talking in an echo chamber.

So that is why I will blog. Hope you read it. If you do, I hope you will comment. In the words of one presidential hopeful, let's have a dialogue. Be brave, be brutal, be honest. I am a big boy. I can take it.
